UPDATE!
BlackBerry services revived in Europe?
Blackberry services have been down for an eternity, but it looks like they could be rekindled, gradually, throughout Europe.
For the past three days, RIM, the manufacturers of BlackBerry smartphones and the BlackBerry Playbook, has been trying to restore its Blackberry services.
The service failure prevented BlackBerry victims from accessing the internet and the ever-so-vital BlackBerry Messenger. The blackout started here in England – specifically Slough.
RIM’s Slough based servers initially suffered a fault that quickly spread around Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
The problem hasn’t been fully resolved, though. It appears that many people are now receiving their BlackBerry messages and emails, but most users are still unable to connect to internet servers, meaning web access is still a no-go.
Both the US and Canada are also plagued by similar problems
RIM’s official answer is:"From 6AM BST today, all services across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, as well as India, have been operating with significant improvement. We continue to monitor the situation 24/7 to ensure ongoing stability. Thank you for your patience." And, as reported by TechRadar, RIM has also stated that this is not a hack, in an attempt to rekindle consumer trust.
The UK-based servers were reportedly undergoing an upgrade which failed, and attempts to ‘downgrade’ the system to it’s previous version also failed. This lead to widespread outages as the UK headquarter deal with a lot of server load from around Europe and Asia.
We’ll let you know, when we know, when RIM’s got things working again. Why don’t you let us know if you’re a BlackBerry user over on Facebook! Of course, you’ll have to use a PC to do that. We’re here for you through this traumatic time. Trackback URL for this blog entry.
