Google has brought pages to their Google+ social network.

In a move that has further challenged the foothold its rival Facebook, Google has introduced a new pages service for businesses and brands.

Google has suggested that Google+ pages will help companies connect with their audiences, the BBC reports. The service will be free to use, just like Facebook’s pages offering. Google has also said that they will not put adverts on pages, either.

The launch of the offering was accompanied by pages from Burberry and the Muppets, but Google has said that the service is more than a mere ‘like’ page for businesses.

Organisations and companies can distribute +1 links to adverts listed on Googles search results, or to another advertising campaign. The page admin can then gain an insight into where +1’s are coming from and how many people are clicking them.

Pages also have access to Google’s innovative Hangouts feature. Companies and businesses will be able to video chat with up to 9 others connected to Google+.

Google says that over 40 million people now have an account on its Social network, making a Page on the site very enticing.

We’ve recently seen Google kill off Buzz in its pursuit to dominate the social networking landscape.

We have set up a page for Tech Bird on Google+, make sure you follow us if you’ve got an account.

Do you think businesses will make the move? Or is Facebook just too good? Let us know below, on Twitter, Facebook, or Goolge+!
