UPDATE!
More on Netflix, signs deal with Lionsgate
Netflix, the film streaming service, has sealed a deal with Lionsgate UK.
Netflix, set to launch in the UK next year, has announced a deal with Lionsgate UK. The streaming service is gearing up to come to the UK after a few months of less-than-sure ums and ers from CEO Reed Hastings. The CEO also claimed that the DVD arm of its successful US business will be spun off into an individual business called Qwikster – we weren't crazy for the name. Mr. Hastings also suggested that Netflix is potentially ‘global’, sparking international lust for the US business. Understandably, Netflix needs to secure deals with top names. Lionsgate UK is one of these top names, and we hope it’s not the last. Lionsgate UK CEO, Zygi Kamasa, said "Netflix is the leading worldwide brand in steaming movies and they have an incredible service in North America’, reports techradar. He continued to say that they "are very excited to be working with them as they launch their service and bring our movies to audiences in the UK and Ireland." This deal is the first Lionsgate has struck with any content streamer, and it mirrors the deals made between the two companies in other territories. Techradar also reports that film exclusives will include The Hunger Games, Expendables 2 and Dirty Dancing (the remake. Darn it!) – we can’t wait for the latter. More exciting, hopefully, is the fact that Netflix will be offering up Lionsgate’s back catalogue which includes hit titles like Saw and Blair Witch. If, like us, you can’t wait for this movie-streaming service to hit our sunny shores, then hit us up on Facebook, Google+, or twitter and let us know and hear your thoughts.
